RDIF and TASS news agency launch a contest for the best photo with the international victory sign and #SputnikVforVictory hashtag
Moscow, March 11, 2021 – The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF, Russia’s sovereign wealth fund), Sputnik V vaccine developers’ team and TASS news agency launch a contest in social media for the best photo with the international victory sign and #SputnikVforVictory hashtag.
Best photos will be published on Sputnik V social media channels and TASS media platforms.
The contest was launched by Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of Russian Direct Investment Fund, during the ceremony for the News Photo Awards. Overcoming COVID competition for professional photojournalists, which was organized by TASS and supported by RDIF.
The ceremony to announce the best photographs took place at the TASS press center today, one year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-10 a pandemic.
The News Photo Awards. Overcoming COVID contest was launched on October 5, 2020. It was dedicated to overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and celebrating the importance of the work of photojournalists who have demonstrated professional valor during the pandemic. Around 4,000 pictures were sent by photojournalists from 84 countries. China, India, Malaysia, Iran, Russia, Italy, Turkey, and the USA were the leaders in terms of the number of pictures sent.
Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, said:
“RDIF welcomes the initiative of the TASS news agency to launch the News Photo Awards. Overcoming COVID photo contest. A picture is worth a thousand words and captures the most dramatic moments of the fight against the pandemic. I am convinced that every photo taking part in this contest will enter the history records of this pandemic. Today, thanks to mass vaccination programs, including those involving the Russian Sputnik V vaccine, one of the most effective vaccines in the world, which is based on a proven platform, this fight is entering its final stage. That is why we have suggested that the contest winners and our social media followers make their own photo series about mass vaccination in different countries. We hope that these pictures will become symbols of decisive victory over the pandemic.”
Sergey Mikhailov, Director General of TASS, commented:
“Photojournalists, along with doctors, were among the first on the front line of the fight against the pandemic. Through their works people around the world could watch this fight unfold on the empty streets, in the “red zones” of hospitals, and in laboratories where vaccines were developed. The work of photojournalists during the pandemic is a real professional act of courage. I am confident that 2020 will be remembered for many decades, including thanks to the photographs that were presented at the News Photo Awards. Overcoming COVID contest.”
