Press release, 25.07.2018

Moscow Region, July 25, 2018 - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited an oncology centre in Balashikha, where he held a meeting to discuss developments for the treatment of cancer for the Russian population. Dmitry Medvedev had a guided tour of the oncology and radiological facility to understand its activities and potential.

The construction of the oncology centre in Balashikha is the first concession project in the field of nuclear medicine in Russia. The successful opening of the centre was made possible by its investors - the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF, the sovereign wealth fund of the Russian Federation) and leading Middle Eastern sovereign funds which invested alongside it.

At the meeting it was noted that RDIF had developed a standard structure, which it will apply in future, to implement similar projects, both in the Moscow region and in other regions, with the goal of creating a Russia-wide network of cancer centers. The initiative is being implemented by RDIF within the framework of a special national program to combat cancer, proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), noted:
“RDIF actively participates in the implementation of infrastructure projects, ensuring the attraction of significant investments in this sector. This creates conditions for the implementation of projects in the regions of Russia and the improvement of not only the economic situation, but also the quality of life of the population. RDIF together with partners continues to work closely with the constituent entities of the Russian Federation to realize the investment potential of the regions.”
