RDIF and partners become anchor investors in Aeroflot SPO

Press release, 09.10.2020

Moscow, October 9, 2020 – The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, and its partners from among the leading sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East, have become anchor investors in the secondary public offering (SPO) of Aeroflot. The total value of the placement is at least RUB80 billion.

Aeroflot is the flagship carrier of Aeroflot Group - Russia’s largest airline and among the top 20 airlines globally by passenger numbers. In 2019, Aeroflot had 41.3% market share in Russia and the group operates one of the youngest fleets of any global carrier operating more than 100 aircraft, with an average aircraft age of five years. As of the end of 2019, Aeroflot had a total of 245 planes in operation.

RDIF attracted the leading sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East to the SPO of Aeroflot, and other major foreign investors also participated in the offering, which is a testament to the strong growth prospects of Russia’s national carrier.

Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, said:

“Aeroflot’s SPO is another example of RDIF successfully attracting foreign investors from among the key sovereign wealth funds in the Middle East to the placement of a leading state-owned Russian company. The placement will enable Aeroflot to continue to strengthen its position in the airline industry, including compared with leading foreign airlines, and it will also ensure the implementation of both the Group’s current goals and its long-term development strategy running until 2028. An extensive route network to multiple destinations already in place provides Aeroflot with significant competitive advantages, and further business growth will have a positive impact on the entire aviation industry in the Russian Federation.”
